Adult Internal Medicine (Basic Training)

Duration

  • 3 years full-time
  • Basic Training (BT) is the start of a minimum 6-year training program to become a Physician
  • Flexible training options are available
  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may apply

Entry

  • Minimum PGY1+
  • Appointed to a training position at an RACP accredited training site
  • Approved for training by the Director of Physician Education (DPE)

Training

36 months certified training time consisting of:

  • 24 months Core training (3-6 months General Medicine, 12 months Medical Specialties and 6 months optional selections)
  • 12 months Non-Core training (may include Emergency Medicine, Medical Specialties, Nights, Relieving, Paediatric Medicine or other DPE approved rotations)

Other

  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Successful completion of BT allows progression to Advanced Training in a range of specialties
