Entry

  • Minimum PGY1+
  • Selected by a local Branch Training Committee based on suitability, skills and experience
  • Appointed to a College-accredited training post

Training

5 years training over 3 Stages:

  • Stage 1 (Basic Level) – 12 months in an approved adult psychiatry rotation, including a minimum of 6 months in an acute setting
  • Stage 2 (Proficient Level) – 24 months (two 6-month mandatory rotations in Consultation–Liaison psychiatry and Child & Adolescent psychiatry) and two 6-month elective rotations in approved areas of practice
  • Stage 3 (Advanced) – 24 months (four 6-month rotations) in one or more approved areas of practice

  • Trainees must provide psychotherapy to a minimum of 3 patients for at least 6 sessions each

  • In addition to general psychiatry training, the RANZCP offers Certificates of Advanced Training in various areas of practice
